Self Storage Sector is Best Performer Among U.S. REIT’s Over 10 Years

The U.S. Real Estate Investment Trust Index compiled by the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trust compares the different REIT sectors on the U.S. stock exchange.

The latest report revealed self storage REIT’s have enjoyed a 33% return over the last year. Though this is not as good as residential at a stellar 38% and retail at 34.5%, it still outperformed the broad REIT sector index (31.4%).

Over 10 years the durability of the returns are really revealed, and self storage tops the charts with compound annual return of 18%, well ahead of the REIT index of 11.7%.
