My name is Linda Pang and I’m the founder of Kindness Is Catching (KiC) . I wanted to write to thank you for your company’s participation in KiC’s 2016 Winter Care Kits and Warmies project. 

I started Kindness Is Catching last year following on from Feel Good Feb. Just me, wanting to ignore the many recent troubles of our world and to bring a positive vibe and attention to all that was good. To be grateful for all that we have, to encourage our children to have compassion and kindness and for them to see the world as a happy place. I am a Primary School teacher and a Special Education teacher, so my passion for helping people who are less fortunate than ourselves and involving our children’s generation is genuine.

It was my wish to harness the kindness of our local community to help homeless people feel cared for and to make wintertime in Sydney a bit more comfortable. In 2015, my goal was to collect 100 Winter Care Kits and a few knitted scarves, beanies and gloves.

One year later, the result was over TWENTY TIMES what I expected! KiC collected 1044 Winter Care Kits and 1098 Winter Warmies that included scarves, blankets, beanies, gloves, sleeping mats and some clothing. Winter Care Kits went directly to people who were sleeping rough. KiC has an extensive network of recipient organisations who distributed our donations such as Manly Community Centre, Newtown Community Centre, Mission Australia, One Meal and we are proud to be in our second year as service providers for the City Of Sydney’s annual event at Sydney Town Hall in July, for Sydney Homeless Connect.

Last year, my house and garage was over run by the multitude of donations received – all stored in boxes thankfully provided by Kennards Self Storage in Brookvale, where your wonderful Manager David Chapman helped me out by donating KSS boxes. My total last year in my house was 839 Winter Care Kits and over 400 Winter Warmies!

This year, I communicated with Sharon Dux at Kennards Self Storage Headquarters and asked for help as I didn’t want my house and garage to be overfilled for another 3 months! She very kindly co-ordinated the donation from Kennards Self Storage of 4 Storage units and locations around Sydney – in Brookvale (my local – I live in Seaforth), Caringbah, Waterloo and Wentworthville, which ended up to be an absolute life saver as this year turned out more donations than I could have handled.

Kennards Self Storage help was one that was given with the kindness out of your heart and I am very very grateful. Thank you so much. I have promoted Kennards on all my social media sites frequently throughout my project – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram with photos of Kennards Boxes and your Team Simon, Nathalia from Brookie and Phil from Waterloo, also feature on my website.

There will always be opportunities for people to help our fellow humans in need, with simple ways in the future. I believe we can band together to bring joy and love into this world via KiC and FGF.
